Effects Of Children On Adult Issues - 1913 Words

For many years, it has been controversially debated whether or not exposing children to adult issues will have a detrimental effect on their developmental health due to their lack of maturity and lack of real world experience. While some believe that children exposed to these issues at an early age will grow up to live normal healthy lives that idea is not commonly accepted. In order to protect children from adult issues such as violence, children have become what is known as an protected audience. What children are protected from varies from one area to another. In some countries, young children are protected from media that displays violence while in other countries these images are more socially acceptable and as a result children†¦show more content†¦Since the very founding of the United States, American culture has been full of violence. For example, when Christopher Columbus found the United States it was already being inhabited by Native Americans. With the help of h is men, Columbus enslaved and killed many of the inhabitants. Within 60 years of his landing only a couple hundred of the original 250,000 Taino Native Americans remained. These acts of brutal violence carried on into the Salem witch trials and slavery. During the times of slavery many African Americans were raped, maimed, and lynched. These lynchings were often made into public spectacles and many times children were in attendance. Although society no longer deems it acceptable to commit such heinous acts publically, children in modern day are still being exposed to violence regularly. With the advancement of technology children have greater access to violent media than ever before. In 1950, only 10% of American households had a television this value has exponentially grown to 99% in 2015. Many children have a television in their bedroom this contributes to children watching programs without parental supervision. The problem with children watching television unsupervised is that t he content of the television program is not being monitored by an adult. Effects of Business Communication in an Organization

Question: Discuss about the Effects of Business Communication in an Organization. Answer: Introduction Business communication helps in continuous flow of information. To take communication further feedback from the receivers end is very much necessary. Organizations in todays world employ large number of people and reciprocation of messages helps in better understanding of the information that are conveyed. Proper communication process needs to be followed between the superiors and the subordinate employees of an organization. Business communication always has a goal target (Bhatia Bremmer, 2014). Due to the new technologies that are available throughout the world, communication is not restricted to telephonic calls or paper work but a wide range is available such as videoconference, mobile phones, mails and satellite communication. There should not be any communication gap in an organization or else it may face a financial meltdown as rules and regulations need to be followed (Guffey Loewy, 2012). Oral Communication- This type of communication deals in a formal and informal way. The formal communication is through meetings, discussions in-group and speeches. The informal one deals with grapevine type of communication where the messages are conveyed randomly (Weninger Kan, 2013). Written Communication- This type of communication deals with anything that is formally written such as annual reports, letters and manuals (Weninger Kan, 2013). Shannon and Weavers Model This was one of the earliest communication model which provided a base for the different communication models that was developed in a later period. In this model, the information is passed through a transmitter that is the medium through which the message is passed. The medium can be anything such as phones or emails. The message then encounters noise, which is one of the barriers that might hamper the original message that the sender wants to convey. The receiver then receives the message and gives his word of appreciation or valuable thoughts to the sender. Like this way, the process keeps on continuing until and unless both the parties agree with each other (McQuail Windahl, 2015). This model lays emphasis on the relationship that needs to be there between the sender and the receiver. In this model, the communication takes place in the best of way and through skilled workers because there are many factors which needs to be kept in mind. The message that the sender sends has to have a definite content and structure so that the receiver can understand it through his work attitudes, knowledge and culture. The channel may not be always in written or spoken but may include other factors as well such as touching, tasting etc (Turnitsa, 2013). This model has a dual system of communication. The sender of the message becomes the receiver of the message when the message is sent back to that person. Similarly, the receiver of the first message becomes the sender of the second message when the person wants to convey its thoughts and ideas back to the original sender. The medium of sending the message can be anything such as calls, mails, videos etc (Petersons Khalimzoda, 2016). The case study had a certain Mr. Booth who volunteered himself for an organization that was for a political campaign. He had to quit his job because he had communication issues that hampered his work in the given schedule. To make the work easier suitable candidates were also interviewed and yet he could not complete the given project on time in spite of having a great team of volunteers. The answer is that he lacked in his communication process and could not manage his task properly. In order to be successful in his venture he had tp follow a communication model, which is discussed thoroughly below along with the problems. The supervisor took the entire workload on him, which created a lot of problem. She should have distributed the work amongst the subordinates carefully according to the skills that they have. She took up the responsibility of the entire work and was under a lot of pressure in completing the work that resulted in her failure. Mr. Booth did not keep a check on her as to how the work was proceeding and should have had a proper communication between them. He failed because he did not the ability to control his employees that was required in the business communication. An ideal communication pattern should not only have information flowing from top to bottom and vice versa but should be horizontal and vertical as well. An organization where the employees do not have a goal is doomed to fail. The volunteers were not properly tipped about the required information that would have led to the completion of the work. The supervisor should have followed the Shannon and Weaver model of communication which would have helped in proper organization of the work. The models states that the information needs to be passed through a transmitter which will help in proper transferring of the message to the person to whom the message needs to be conveyed. The supervisor could have used emails or phone calls while distributing the task initially that could have increased the work output. Conclusion To have a proper communication channel certain things needs to be in mind. The top bosses should not create a divide between them and the subordinates because that leads to a chaos and impedes the communication process. There needs to be certain policies, which will enhance the communication system in a company where the employees can freely communicate with each other. The authoritarian layers needs to be cut in the middle as the message while passing in between can gather many extra inputs that might deviate the main message that the sender wanted to convey may be hampered (Pitta Franzak, 2013). Sometimes, even fear amongst the employees can create a problem in communication. There are also many things such as the halo effect, where the employers judge their employees based on one characteristic, which is that employees strong point. Due to inattentiveness of the receiver or the lack of interest about that subject also causes differences in communication (Castells, 2013). Therefor e, overall, any misunderstanding in the workplace regarding some issues in communication needs to be identified and dealt with immediately to avert losses in the organization.
